Coin depicts the implementation of Marquis Wheat in the early 1800's. Marquis Wheat, Red Fife was used in the brutally short Canadian growing season. Convinced there was a better option available.

William Saunders successfully created the more durable Marquis Wheat by crossbreeding hundreds of strains. This advancement essentially doubled the amount of land that could be farmed in Western Canada.
