The beehive, home to and engineering feat of the honey bee, is built around an iconic structure: the honeycomb. This amazing architecture is a mathematically perfect matrix of hexagons, optimizing spatial coverage while minimizing the amount of construction material required for building - an achievement of engineering efficiency that is virtually unmatched. With all the effort and talent that goes into hive-making, you could say that busy as a bee is almost an understatement! This is the first coin in the Royal Canadian Mints exciting new painted silver proof series featuring exceptional architects of Canadas animal world. Each coin comes with a certificate of fascinating facts about the life of honey bees in Canada. Crafted in 99.99% fine silver.
This coin was designed by Canadian artist Yves Bérubé. It features a painted honey bee standing atop a flower blossom, its head bowed to collect precious nectar that will sustain its colony. The design is layered over an embossed honeycomb of perfectly symmetrical hexagons, which cover the entire polished silver field of the coins reverse. The reverse also features the word CANADA, the date 2013, and the face value of 3 DOLLARS. Each coin is encapsulated and presented in a Royal Canadian Mint-branded maroon clam-shell case lined with flock and protected by a black sleeve. A perfect coin gift for everyone! Since all coins offered in that listing are essentially identical, the coin photographed is representative of all coins offered. Surface areas that appear black on some proof coin photos are actually highly polished, mirror-bright metal reflecting the color of the camera. We often include proof coin photos with the coin slightly tilted to better depict the mirror bright surfaces.
However, tilting the coin may resulting one side being slightly out of focus. Whenever possible, we use actual photos of our coins, rather than just stock artwork from the Mint.
We frequently update and upgrade the photos that appear with our listings, using improved cameras and lenses and better lighting. We will honor your requests for additional photos as quickly as our schedule permits.
