Mintage is limited to 2,500 coins. As a pure silver coin produced by the Royal Canadian Mint, there is no HST or GST applicable on this item.
First introduced in 1996, the design features a majestic image of a Canadian polar bear standing on an ice flow. While a regular two dollar coin has a diameter of 28 mm and a weight of just 6.92 grams in base metal, this two dollar has a diameter of 65 mm and has a weight of 157.6 grams, or over 5 ounces, in pure silver. This is about equal the weight of 22 regular two dollars. The coin is double struck to ensure fine detail and a near flawless surface, while the design is further enhanced with selective colour.
