This large five ounce pure silver 2016 25 cent Big Coin features selective colour which brings the intricate design of the Caribou to life in a way never seen before. With a mintage of just 1,500 coins for one of Canada's premier quality annual proof coins, this is an extremely limited issue with demand significantly greater than the quantity produced.
As a pure silver coin produced by the Royal Canadian Mint, there is no HST or GST applicable on this item. First introduced in 1937, the caribou on our 25 cent denomination has become a classic symbol of Canada. While a regular caribou quarter has a diameter of 24 mm and a weight of just 4.4 grams in base metal, this huge caribou quarter with selective colour has a diameter of 65 mm and has a weight of over 155 grams, or 5 ounces, in pure silver. This is about equal the weight of 35 regular quarters.
The coin is double struck to ensure fine detail and a near flawless surface, while the design is further enhanced with selective colour, highlighting the coin's main design.
