The Gold Maple Leaf is among the oldest modern bullion series. First issued in 1979, the coin is a celebration of Canada's national symbol. The four-nine fine coin is as pure as any bullion coin in the world.

The series also has radial lines, and the last two digits of the date are microengraved on a maple leaf privy, making this virtually impossible to counterfeit. It was struck from 1 oz of gold at the Royal Canadian Mint. Featuring a Magnificent Maple Leaf Design.

The coin's obverse features Susanna Blunt's portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, Canada's head of state. The portrait has been a mainstay of the series since 2005.

It shows the monarch facing right with her shoulders open to the holder. Unlike depictions of her on coins from other countries and territories, this one shows her without a crown or a tiara. Her name, "ELIZABETH II, " is inscribed along the rim, as are the coin's face value, "50 DOLLARS, " and date, 2020. On the reverse is a single maple leaf. The sugar maple leaf is executed in fine detail that brings it to life, while also beautifully conveying Canada's strong sense of national pride.

The name of the issuing country is inscribed above the leaf, while the coin's purity, "9999, " is noted on either side of the leaf. The privy is to the right of the stem. Throughout the bottom half of the rim is an inscription in English and French that offers the coin's weight. It reads, FINE GOLD 1 OZ OR PUR.
