Dia de Muertos - the Day of the Dead - is a holiday that celebrates and pays respect to those who have died. Dia de Muertos is traditionally celebrated on November 1 and 2 and historically originated from Mexico. In 2008, the tradition was inscribed in the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.

The reverse of each coin features various celebrants of Dia de Muertos, dressed in costume honouring the dead. The inscription "CANADA" can be seen at the top. Parts of the reverse are coated in a glow in the dark enamel that will glow when sufficiently energised. The obverse of each coin shows the Susana Blunt effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. Repeating calavera's (representations of human skulls) Aztec marigold flowers can be seen around the effigy.

Each coins encapsulated and is placed in special Dia de Muertos themed packaging. Each package has the sets individualised serial number on the back.
